MCDERMOTT AND BROADHURST RETURN WITH ONE MOTORSPORT MERCEDES-AMG GT4

One Motorsport, the newly rebranded team comprising the former BTC Racing and former Intelligent Money British GT Championship entrant Motus One, will oversee the latter’s GT4 programme this season.

Pro-Am duo Ed McDermott and Mikey Broadhurst are returning aboard the same Mercedes-AMG GT4 that first appeared at Brands Hatch last season with support from G-Force Capital. Motus One and its drivers had previously entered a McLaren 570S GT4.

Their new green and gold livery echoes Zakspeed’s Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2 that contested DTM’s 1992 campaign. Kurt Thiim and Roland Asch both won races en route to second and sixth in the standings, respectively.

Ed McDermott said: “It’s great to be back in British GT with a the newly-formed One Motorsport for a full season. 2022 was my first full year of racing and it was a great learning experience. What was meant to be one or two rounds of BGT quickly turned into six. Despite a pretty bad run of luck, we showed flashes of the performance we’ll need to compete at the front of the GT4 Pro-Am class this season and we badly want to win races. I was far too respectful and this year will be showing my teeth regardless of who I’m competing against, hard but fair racing.”

“I have to say British GT is such a great championship and I love the support we received last year from the incredible fans of BGT. Whether it was sending us amazing photos of our car, a pat on the back and encouragement when things went badly for us or just the unwavering passion for motorsport it’s really makes every round special. One motorsport has a brilliant culture, a never give up mentality and we’ve worked hard over winter to get the car in great shape. Michael Broadhurst is an exceptional teammate and coach and like me he is chomping at the bit to get the 2023 underway.”

The rebranded team combines a title-winning British Touring Car operation with the GT focus of Motus One whose founder, Will Powell, has joined the One Motorsport board as a director.

One Motorsport will also remain in BTCC this year but is expanding its GT operation to include the new McLaren Trophy and British Endurance Championship.

“I am delighted this has come together to create one of the strongest teams in British motorsport,” said Powell. “In a relatively short period, my team at Motus One have worked hard to build a team capable of competing at the top.

“Joining forces with Steve Dudman and Danny Buxton in the newly formed One Motorsport takes things to the next level, providing customers with better support, equipment and facilities. I’m looking forward to leading the commercial operation, where I have always been at my strongest, and helping to drive forward the GT and BTCC programmes on track.”

Oulton Park stages the opening round of this season’s Intelligent Money British GT Championship on April 8 & 10.
